The Road to Shadows Deep

The Scriptures speak of darkened ways,
Where wicked souls are cast,
Into the depths of the fiery blaze,
Their future is bound and fast.
No modern words can soothe the fire
That waits with wailing breath,
For Christ has shown the end is dire—
The wage of sin is death.

Two visions stark, yet only one
Holds truth that we must heed,
For heaven’s light and Satan’s snare
Are sown from thought and deed.
The Bible’s cry rings out so clear,
“Repent before the fall!”
But itching ears, they close in fear,
And shun the Savior’s call.

For every path the sinner treads,
In shame and guilt descends,
While righteousness, with gentle hands,
To endless joy ascends.
The journey’s end is fixed and sure,
Where justice casts its spell,
The righteous rise, the lost endure
The ceaseless pangs of hell.

Oh, heaven gleams with radiant light,
A home for souls made pure,
But hell, it roars through endless night,
For those who won’t endure.
The furnace burns, the worm it gnaws,
In darkness thick and grim,
Yet still we hear our Savior’s laws,
And know He calls to him.

For heaven’s gates are open wide
To those who hear His plea,
But in the end, the flames divide
The souls from liberty.
And so we walk this narrow road,
In fear or faith we dwell,
Between the joy of heaven’s code
or shadows deep in hell.
